Richard Stoner pleaded guilty to multiple murder charges in 2018, saying he'd been hired to kill a Virginia Beach woman by her ex-husband. In exchange for his plea and cooperation, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty. But after capital punishment was abolished in Virginia, Stoner asked to withdraw his plea.
